Puy de Sancy - highest point of the Sancy massif
Alpine-looking, the Puy de Sancy contrasts radically with the other peaks of the Massif Central. Indeed, there are steep slopes and many jagged edges. It is popular with experienced skiers to face its very steep slopes as well as the other peaks or steep rocks that surround it: Puy Ferrand, Dent de la Rancune... In addition, four valleys, worked by glaciers, arise on its sides:
Chaudefour (north-east);
Salt fountain (south);
Dordogne (north);
Doe (west).
Among the streams that have their source on the slopes of the Sancy: the Dore at 1,680 meters above sea level, and the Dogne at 1,640 meters, and which, by meeting at 1,370 meters above sea level, give birth to the Dordogne5.
